Unity Free Tutorials

Image
Hey, For this weeks unity free tutorials I watched the tutorial on how to make a collectable and scoring system. I thought this would be a good tutorial for me because in my game I wanted to have a scoring system for my game for when the player of the game will use the character to go around the map to collect coins, when they collect the coins I want it to show how many coins they have collected. The first video starts out with Jimmy Vegas having stars on the screen, he was using the stars as the items he was going to collect. He adds the text score because this will display the score when the coins are collected, even though Jimmy is using stars I want to use coins because I think they will be easier to make. Jimmy places the score text on the top of the screen so when the character looks up they can see the score. i'm going to bring this into my game because I like the idea of it. (Source Pinterest)

Games Testing

Image
Hey, Just here to give my thoughts on this weeks readings, this week is to do with game testing. This is relevant to me because next week we will all be showing our game designs to the class. The first reading was on criticism, whether it's the good, bad and the ugly like it says on the first reading. Reading one was about how to give someone criticism, why it's good to give someone criticism and does one take criticism. I think this was a goos reading because some people don't know how to take criticism and they take it as a negative thing.  Giving Criticism . In the second reading is all on testing games. The reading said that the designer should aim towards a goal and go in that direction. As a designer it's important that you can play test your game.  Testing (Source Pinterest)

Unity Free Tutorials

Hi People, The first tutorial I watched was on how to make a coin. I think this was useful tutorial because for my final game that I'm making the character collect coins that will be scattered through out the map. So the tutorial I watched started out with a red sphere. The maker of the video then brings in a cylinder shape and changes the dimensions on it so it forms the shape of the coin. They change the colour of the coin to gold. They then went over to Microsoft Visual Studio. They put some code into so that the golden coin would rotate when you play the game. I like the idea of the coin spinning because it show the skill involved by doing that. They duplicate the coin when they hit play it shows that all the coins are rotating at the same time and in the same direction. For the second video it was classic from the man himself Jimmy Vegas. This video was on wind zones and skyboxes. I thought this would be a handy one for my game as I'm considering putting them into my ga...

Game stories

Image
Hey All, I'M here to give my thoughts on the readings for this week. In the first reading it starts off by saying that every game doesn't need a strong story, it also says that there's many games out there that has the potential to be a good game. The article basically says that the problem is that the game designers come from other jobs so they might need help to get to know the full idea of the game. Theres good books on game design but very few of them tell you how to start with a idea and turn it into a design. The writer of the article says the hardest job in game design is when you get the initial idea or concept and turn it into a game. Into the Woods: a Practical Guide to the Hero’s Journey . by Bob Bates. The second reading was from  What every game developer needs to know about story by John Sutherland . The article starts off by saying that the story is the hot part of the game. This is because the quality of games are rising in the young art form. As the game...

Hey All, Just here to talk about my game and how it's going. I have the layout of the land, there's mountains in it with a trail going up to it. The mountains have a rocky look to it. I want to have either a waterfall coming from it or maybe just have some sort of lake so I'm working on that. I have a character in the game but I can't seem to get him working properly. I want to get him picking up items and throwing items in the end. I want to get the trees moving in the wind along with the grass. I have some houses in the game, I want to add coins to collect through out the terrain. By next week I'm hoping to meet all these targets to near the end goal of this game.

Week9 Progress

Hello, I'm just here to reflect on on everything over the past 9 weeks. To with this module I was quite happy doing this every week without any bother, towards the middle of this semester I kind of started slack on all my modules. Every week i don't mind doing the bit of readings on the Tuesday and Thursday and then on the weekends leaving comments on other people's blogs, I think it quite enjoyable and helps the other people know where they are with the work they're doing on their blogs and most importantly their projects. If I was to say what I enjoyed the most I'd probably have to say was the readings on the growth mindset, I thought the videos on them were quite interesting and it really got me thinking on the topic in general. I think what was said in the video was very true and in my personal opinion I think it's a common problem happening everyday. For the second semester I am looking forward to going onto new experiences with the module, I hope to im...

Review week comments and feedback

Hey all, I want to discuss the comments that are left on my blogs and the ones I leave on other peoples ones. From reading through the comments left on my introduction blog, the people seemed to be happy for me that I enjoyed my year last year and some of them said they were fans of my music choice and my movie choices. Some are saying that they enjoyed reading my blogs and I think thats good because I don't want to be putting anything out there someone to hate it, but if I got any bad comments I'll take it as constructive criticism.  I think thats important. From the comments that I give out I think are alright, I like reading through different peoples blogs and finding out different life stories from them or even the hobbies that they do or the interests that they have, maybe they will have the same interests as me and that could get us communicating. I think the comments I leave on other peoples game projects are fair, I will tell if I like the game and if i have any ide...
